Today my best friend and I discussed eReaders. She was looking for advice and remembered my love for my lost Kindle. Not-so-long-ago that I sent back to Amazon after it froze on me. The return went through, but instead of the money being returned to my account, it was sent to my closed over-seas Visa account . Try as I may, I never saw that money again. So… no Kindle for me.
Of course, I would like to replace my eReader – it was fantastic! I loved the ease of reading from e-paper and the convenience of downloadable books. But a new eReader isn’t in my budget… yet.
Besides, I have so many great reads on the go! My nightstand is piled high with plenty of eye-catching books to keep me busy. So… I thought I might make a new challenge for myself. What if, while saving money over the next few weeks, I made the effort to read all of the books that I’ve started?
There’s something worth taking a shot at!
So, please allow me to share with you my “in-progress” reads. Enjoy.
The Art of War for Writers – fiction writing strategies, tactics, and exercises by James Scott Bell.
This is a clever little writing text that I’ve been picking away at over the past year. Divided into easy-to-digest sub-sections, this book provides writers with plenty of guidance for writing their own fiction; from character building and story-lining, to background and business strategies.
A Treasury of New Brunswick Art and Stories Volume I and II by Peter D. Clark.
I just received these stories from my Dad this Christmas. New Brunswick’s Peter D. Clark compiles plenty of rustic tales from across the province – with a special emphasis on fishing. I’m sure to enjoy learning a bit more about my cultural heritage.
The Art of Getting Started by Lee Crutchley.
A fill-in-the-blank-page kind of book, similar to Wreck this Journal, The Art of Getting Started is all about pushing yourself past your inner-critic and just doing something. It’s filled with lots of drawing and self-evaluation. I’m currently stuck on the page where you need to draw shapes with three different coloured pens. I couldn’t find a third colour. Ugh. Excuses!
Homer’s The Odyssey (translated by Robert Fagles)
Odysseus has returned from his trials only to find a bunch of good-for-nothings sitting on his doorstep. I’m pretty sure he’s about to unleash a can of whoop-ass. Side note: Fagles’s translations are superb!
Virgil’s The Aeneid (translated by Robert Fagles)
I can’t wait to get started on this Roman epic poem.
The Buckshaw Chronicles – Volume One by Alan Bradley.
This is a three book compilation of stories about a your scientist named Flavia De Luce – this novel was misplaced and forgotten during our (semi)-recent move. I can’t wait to dig in!
Yes Please by Amy Poehler.
Saved the best for last! I am so in love with this charming memoir by comedian Amy Poehler!
